How did Prophet Muhammad ﷺ Show His Love for His Ummah

Hewas full of concern and worried about us

“There certainly has come to you a messenger from among yourselves. He is concerned by your suffering, anxious for your well-being, and gracious and merciful to the believers.”
At-Tawbah 9:128

Allah tells us how the struggles and challenges faced by people truly burdened the Prophet’s heart. He was deeply invested in the well-being of those around him, constantly yearning for the best in others. His compassion and kindness were not just natural traits but also reflections of his deep empathy, especially towards the believers.

Heprayed for us in every prayer

‘Aisyah r.a said, When I saw the Prophet ﷺ in a good mood, I said, “O Messenger of Allah, supplicate to Allah for me.” So, he said, “O Allah, forgive ‘Aisyah for her past and future sins, and for what she did in private and in public.” ‘Aisyah r.a laughed so much that her head fell in to her lap. The Prophet said to her, “Does my supplication make you happy?” She said, “Why would you supplication not make me happy?”

The Prophet ﷺ said, “By Allah, it is my supplication for my ummah in every salah.” (Ibn Hibban)

Hesaved his final du’a for us

“Allah has given one Dua to every single prophet and every single messenger, that He has guaranteed that He will respond to.

And every single prophet has used up this Dua for himself in this world, except for me.

I have saved it and I have not used it and I will not use it in this life. I have kept it for my Ummah and I will use it for them on the Day of Judgement.

And my Dua will be, O Allah, forgive my entire Ummah.”

(Sahih Imam Muslim)

Hedid not want Islam to be too difficult for us

He ﷺ was careful not to overburden us with too many obligations, such can be found in a hadith where Allah’s Messenger said,

“Were I not afraid that it would be hard on my Ummah, I would have ordered them to use the siwak (as obligatory, for cleaning the teeth) for every prayer”
(Sahih Imam al-Bukhari)

He even bargained with Allah s.w.t during the night of Isra’ & Mi’raj to reduce the number of obligatory prayers from 50 to just 5, saying,

“O Allah, make things easier for my Ummah.”

Hemissed us & yearned to see us

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,

“I wish I could meet my brothers.”

The companions said, “Are we not your brothers?”

The Prophet ﷺ said, “You are my companions, but my brothers are those who have faith in me although they never saw me.”
(Musnad Imam Ahmad)

Hecried for us

Abdullah b. Amr b. Al-’As reported, The Prophet ﷺ recited the verse about Ibrahim a.s.: “My Lord! They have caused many people to go astray. So whoever follows me is with me, and whoever disobeys me – then surely You are All-Forgiving, Most Merciful” (14:35) and Isa a.s. said: If You punish them, they belong to You after all. But if You forgive them, You are surely the Almighty, All-Wise. (5:118)”

He ﷺ then raised his hands and weeping, he invoked, “O Allah! My Ummah, My Ummah!” Thus, Allah s.w.t said, “O Jibril, go to Muhammad. Even though your Lord has full knowledge, ask him: ”What is making you weep?” So Jibril came to him and asked. The Prophet ﷺ informed him about what he had said, even though He (s.w.t) had full knowledge of it. Allah sent Jibril down with glad tidings, “O Muhammad, surely we will please you in regards to your Ummah and we will not cause you grief.” (Sahih Muslim)
