Bid’aah: A Drama Or A Mirror?

“Bidaah”: A Drama or A Mirror?

A gripping series — and a timely reminder.
Let’s reflect on what it teaches us about faith, power, and accountability in the name of religion.

Not Every ‘Jubah & Serban’ Means Truth

Religious attire doesn’t guarantee religious integrity.
The Prophet ﷺ warned:

“What I fear most for my nation is every hypocrite with a knowledgeable tongue.”
— Musnad Ahmad 143, Sahih Ibn Hibban 80

‘Umar ibn al-Khattab said:

“Do not let the prayer of a man deceive you nor his fasting. Rather, look at the truthfulness of his speech, his trustworthiness whenever he is entrusted, and how he acts whenever he is given wealth and power.”
— Recorded by Imams Musaddad and Bayhaqi; authenticated by Hafiz Ibn Hajar

Islam is Not Blind Obedience

In Bidaah, followers are told not to question. But Islam commands critical thinking.

Allah says:

—“Then do they not reflect upon the Qur’an, or are there locks upon [their] hearts?”

[Qur’an 47:24]

—The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There is no obedience to any created being if it involves disobedience to Allah.”

Musnad Ahmad 1095

Obedience is earned through truth, not demanded through fear.

Forced Marriage is Oppression, Not Religion

Baiduri’s forced marriage reflects a harsh reality many still face — in the name of Islam.
The Prophet ﷺ said:

“A previously-married woman has more right concerning herself than her guardian, and a virgin’s consent should be sought.”
— Sahih Muslim 1421

Consent (ridha) is a requirement — not an option.

Beware of Spiritual Gaslighting

“Kalau awak lawan, awak lawan Allah.” — a dangerous manipulation.
Allah is Al-Haqq, not a tool for control.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The religion is sincere advice.”
— Sahih Muslim 55

True leaders accept advice. False ones fear it.

The Sunnah of Speaking Up
Hambali’s courage echoes that of the early believers.
The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The best jihad is a word of truth before a tyrannical ruler.”
— Sunan Abi Dawud 4344

Standing up isn’t rebellion. It’s integrity.

5 Ways to Protect Yourself & Family

  1. Learn Islam from trustworthy scholars — with sanad and humility
  2. Ask questions — the Prophet ﷺ welcomed them
  3. Beware of cultish behaviour — fear, secrecy, guilt
  4. Foster mercy and knowledge at home
  5. Make dua for protection from misguidance

Imam Malik said:

“Knowledge is not to be taken from four types of people: a foolish person who openly acts foolish, even if he reports the most narrations; an adherent of bid’ah who calls to his desires; a person who lies, even if I don’t accuse him of lying in ḥadīth; and a righteous pious worshipper who does not accurately retain what he narrates.”
— Siyar Aʻlām al-Nubalāʼ

Important Reminder:

Yes, Bidaah shows religious leaders in a negative light.
But don’t paint every scholar or ustaz with the same brush.
Balance and justice (munsif) is part of our deen.
Allah commands:

“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.”
— Qur’an 5:8

Many asatizah serve sincerely, quietly, with ikhlas — correcting falsehood, not enabling it.
Don’t let one corrupted voice drown the thousands calling to truth with love and humility.

This is not just a drama. It’s a mirror.
A reminder to know your deen.
To protect your family.
To never mistake culture or charisma for Islam.
And above all — to stay close to Allah, Al-Haqq.

Learn. Question. Speak up. Stay grounded.
And let’s uphold the beauty of Islam — the way Rasulullah ﷺ brought it.
