5 Helpful Tips To Overcome Laziness

Here are 5 helpful tips to overcome laziness!

Are you feeling lazy and struggling to be productive? As Muslims, we are encouraged to strive for excellence, but laziness can be a major obstacle. In this article, we will share five practical tips from Islamic teachings to overcome laziness and become more productive in our daily lives.

1. Recite this dua.

The Prophet ﷺ used to say,

“O Allah! I seek refuge with You from helplessness, laziness, cowardice, and feeble old age; I seek refuge with You from afflictions of life and death and seek refuge with You from the punishment in the grave.” -Sahih Al-Bukhari

2. Optimize your sleeping schedule.

Getting enough sleep is essential for having a successful day, as it directly impacts our physical and mental well-being. When we have adequate rest, our bodies have the chance to repair and restore themselves, which can help us feel more energized and productive.

On the other hand, when we don’t get enough sleep, we may feel sluggish, irritable, and have difficulty concentrating, which can lead to a less successful day.

3. Avoid overeating.

Overeating can lead to laziness and sleepiness. Therefore, we should try to follow the advice of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ: “The human does not fill any container that is worse than his stomach. It is sufficient for the son of Adam to eat what will support his back. If this is not possible, then a third for food, a third for drink, and a third for his breath” -Sunan Ibn Majah.

4. Practice cleanliness and self-care.

Always take showers and put on perfume, as this can energize the mind. Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Pleasant fragrances benefit the mind and heart, and all the hidden organs; they bring joy to the heart and gladden the soul, and they are the most appropriate thing for the soul. There is a strong connection between pleasant fragrances and the good soul, and perfume was one of the most beloved things of this world to the best of good souls, namely the Prophet”

5. Embrace an active lifestyle.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was known for his active lifestyle and frequently engaged in physical activities, such as wrestling, horse racing, archery, and brisk walking. His example serves as a reminder of the significance of incorporating physical activity into our daily lives.

5. Surround yourself with righteous, productive people.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said, “The example of a good companion in comparison with a bad one, is like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith’s bellows (or furnace); from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof.” Sahih Al-Bukhari.
